Beneath the orthodox religions that lay claim to the soul of Western man runs an esoteric current that has preserved the lore and hermetic traditions of our ancestors. Walkers Between the Worlds explores the ancient earth wisdom of the shaman, and the Gnostic and Egyptian mysteries of the East. Practical exercises drawn from these traditions are included.

"Walkers Between the Worlds" is a reissue of the Matthews' popular book, "The Western Way." This book is actually a combined edition of two of their previous books, "The Native Tradition," and "The Hermetic Tradition." The two original books explore in some depth the magickal spiritual traditions practiced in the English and Celtic cultures. Basic ideas are explained clearly with a solid historical background provided to give them context. A strong foundation is built up for modern magickal and Pagan practice with clear ties to historical sources.

The book isn't just theory, however. There are exercises and descriptions of specific methods given throughout the book. The book is very heavy on theory and history and might be a bit too much for beginners unless they are looking for a solid grounding in theory. I would probably recommend this book for intermediate to advanced Pagans who want to explore the history and practice of magickal religion from two prolific and well-researched Pagan authors.
