Dion Fortune wrote novels as well as her nonfiction books as a way to pass on occult wisdom. This book, part of the series including "The Demon Lover," "The Goat-Foot God," "The Winged Bull," and "The Sea Priestess," is my personal favourite. It really expresses what many modern Pagans feel about what it is to pursue one's dreams in becoming a Pagan priest or priestess.

While the writing may be a bit dated for modern audiences the story is still a good one.
