Copyright is a hot topic in the age of the internet. It's easier than ever to "borrow" other people's work, whether it's text, images, sounds, or videos and reproduce it elsewhere. However copyright laws do apply still even though it's really simple to copy someone's work.

To keep it simple, that means:
- do not copy someone else's work and reproduce it here without explicit permission to do so
- if you do have permission to reproduce someone else's work here, you must indicate that with the work you are reproducing (preferably with a link back to the original source -- i.e. the name of the book and author, or the website URL for the original.)

Some websites, such as Wikipedia, state in their Copyright statement that their text may be freely reproduced providing a link is given back to their article's webpage. If you wish to reproduce material from other websites look for their Copyright statements, or contact the website's owners to request permission to reproduce their work.

It is sometimes acceptable to reproduce small portions of someone else's work for the purpose of discussion or criticism. This is called "fair use" and is usually permitted. To learn more about what constitutes "fair use" please check out this Wikipedia article on the topic.
