Weather where I live in Florida is very, very dry. Last year was too. Generally we get a lot of rain in the spring but this year and last...hardly any. Grass is already getting crunchy and we have had our first forest fire already on the border of Fl. and Ga. in the Okekeennofe (sp) Swamp...almost a million acres. This summer is predicted to be as bad or worse than last year for forest fires, (which was said to be the among the worst in Florida history).

We will have about 3 more weeks of pleasant weather, then it will bake everything and be humid.

I miss my Va mountains...lol.

We are still having a combination of snow, rain, hail, tornados, floods, etc.--a typical Iowa spring.

I am visiting my family in Alaska in 2 weeks. I can't wait to get back to some sane weather...

I was originally raised in Georgia, but I moved to Alaska about 3 years after high school and spent 30 years there. My daughters live there and my grandkids, so it is home now. I do miss it.

At first, I spent a few years living out in the wilderness of Alaska, learning to survive there without the "system." We studied with the Athabaskans, who were willing to teach us their ways. That was our glorified camping trip, but it got old after a few years, and I left there and moved to "Babylon" and got a job. After I got married, I moved to Anchorage and raised my family there and out in the Matanuska Valley. The Valley has the best weather in Alaska. Not too much snow and pretty much the best weather. It is a very growing region. Things are very dry in Alaska, so not too much snow and the cold, because it lacks moisture, is not really cold at all--unlike here in Iowa, where it is so humid, the cold really bites through your clothing.

I was born and raised in Virginia, raised my family there. My sister and I are both retired and widows..her children aren't far from where we are in Florida...we sold our respective houses and moved here almost 5 years ago now. My children and grandchildren are in Virginia.

Alaska is fun, but it just isn't Alaska unless it is winter. In the summer, it is just a cold California with big mountains. There is a lot to do there.

Eight more days and I fly up there for my vacation. The job doesn't seem to want me to go... I have a lot to get done before I can let loose, but I plan to get it all done no matter what.
