Growing an Herbal Garden..Introduction

Herbs are fairily easy to grow. Most are sun lovers but some prefer a little more shade. The best way to begin is to buy seedlings. This way you can see and smell the plants and make your decision. You can also read the growing instructions on each one to see if the location you want to plant them in is suitable. It is best to buy your seedlings in the Spring; you can find them at your local nurseries and at most of your larger chain stores, i.e...Walmart, Target, KMart, Lowes, Home Depot...etc... . You can even find culinary herbs in the produce sections of your grocery stores...tho these generally don't grow abundantly since they are usually established plants to begin with (although my basil is doing fine and I harvest it all the time).

There are many styles of herb gardens..from the informal with herbs and flowers growing side by side...knot gardens with hedges planted in a formal design...to container gardens like mine.

Herbs range from perennial, biennial and annuals. Depending on the zone you live in, an annual in colder climes becomes a perennial in warmer ones (like rosemary)

Herbals can be used for a variety of purposes.

``aromatherapy
``raising the psychic senses
``magick
``culinary
``visual (as in beauty to the eye)
``medicinal
``household uses
